The website that helps me write at least 1,000 words each day

There’s a website I use that has made writing four times more doable and four times more fun. And I intentionally multiplied by 4 because that’s the theme of the website. It‘s called 4thewords.com

This is not sponsored or anything. I just love this website. Here’s the basic gist. You get to defeat monsters and level up as you write your novel. Those are two of my favorite things!

When you first login to the website it will begin a story, and like a video game, you choose and customize an avatar. It’s set in a fantasy world where monsters have been set loose and you play the hero who has to defeat them and make you’re way to the final level to beat them.

Sounds like many video games, but here’s the twist. To beat the monsters you have to write a certain number of words within a certain timeframe. The smallest monsters can be defeated by writing 100 words in 20 minutes, and some of the largest monsters take over 2,000 words in a few hours. Defeating monsters earns you rewards, experience points, and progresses the story.

This is has been very motivating for me. I have found that I write best in sprints. Give me a short time and see how much I can write before the times up, and Ill write a lot. Give me a two hour window, before work or something, and I have a hard time focusing on anything other than the blinking bar.

4thewords helped me to write the first draft of a middle grade novel in about a month. And now I’m 24,000 words into the next project.

I highly recommend it, even if you don’t write books. If you need to write a lot of emails or blogs, or anything often, and you’d like some extra motivation, then give it a shot.

That’s all. Keep on keeping on!
